Lincoln Project: Rick Wilson on the resiliency of Trumpism
Washington Bureau Chief Ines Pohl talked to the co-founder of the Lincoln Project, Rick Wilson, about the future of the Republican Party. There are many who want to change the GOP's current path.
The Lincoln Project is an American political initiative founded in late 2019 by Republicans and former Republicans. During the 2020 presidential election the project aimed to prevent the re-election of Donald Trump.
Wilson offered a very bleak outlook saying that "the emergence of a third party is among us." According to him, what follows Trumpism will be more sophisticated and more dangerous. He said that "the Republican party has sold out itself to Trump" and that by 2018 "they were only two types of people left: Those who understood how dangerous [Trump] was and would speak and the vast majority who understand how dangerous he was and wouldn't speak."
Wilson said he is afraid that if the members of the Republican Party don't have a "painful reconciliation", they will be "driving the party more into the Trump space which is nationalist and authoritarian."
