Özgür Mumcu is a journalist, writer, and lawyer who writes for "Cumhuriyet" and teaches International Law at Galatasaray University in Istanbul. After dealing with threats and oppression during their reporting, in 2016, the Cumhuriyet, a leading independent newspaper in Turkey, received an award from the Right Livelihood Foundation ‘for their fearless investigative journalism and commitment to freedom of expression in the face of oppression, censorship, imprisonment and death threats’.
