Gender equality is a goal of great significance in the implementation of the entire 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. However, in a constantly changing political and social landscape, the egalitarian vision and concepts enshrined in the SDGs are under attack. The rise of right-wing populist parties in Europe, the outcome of the US presidential campaign, as well as the growing influence of radical  Islam  in parts of the world threaten pluralism, as well as women’s and minority rights. Against this backdrop, the media plays an increasingly important role in upholding democratic values and human rights, promoting diversity and gender equality, and ensuring fair and sustainable development for all. High-level international speakers from the media, policy and civil society will join us at an interactive panel discussion.  The Session will focus on the challenges of gender transformative journalism as well as social media in the "post-truth" world and explore its capacity to help build a more peaceful, just and inclusive society.
