上千個巴林什葉反對派支持者舉行示威遊行，要求民主政改。抗議者身披國旗，高呼反對當局的口號。從今年十月份巴林開始實施禁止反對派組織舉行政治性遊行的禁令，該禁令在本周三被解除。
反對派發表的一份聲明稱「只要不能真正通過民主過程來結束不公正和暴政的時代，示威活動就不會停止。」這場反政府抗議活動始於去年2月。

巴林大部分民眾都是什葉派穆斯林，但是掌權的政府官員幾乎都是遜尼派。去年2月份的抗議遊行時，巴林國王哈馬德‧阿勒哈利法(Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa)得到了沙烏地阿拉伯的援助，示威者被血腥鎮壓。根據人權組織的數據，自從巴林反政府示威活動發生以來已有80人喪生。
