In Brazil, the legacy of slavery remains, with racism and inequality alive and well. Black people are more likely to be left out when it comes to education and income levels. Across Brazil, there are thousands of quilombos, communities of descendants of African slaves. But the fight for legal recognition and self-determination has been slow. Now a Supreme Court case could make it even harder.
