Will the economic summit in Washington DC provide a blueprint for global financial markets in the 21st century? Or will it be a clash of titans: the free-market North Americans against the regulation-friendly Europeans against the power-hungry emerging economies? You can argue who has the right approach. What is for certain: banks around the world have already written off almost 700 billion dollars in bad assets this year--that cannot continue.
