Warriors win NBA title
June 17, 2015The Golden State Warriors have beaten LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers 105-97 on Tuesday to win the NBA Finals for the first time since 1975.
The Warriors, the top-seeded team in the playoffs after finishing with the best record in the regular season, won the best-of-seven championship series 4-2.
Reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry and Andre Iguodala top-scored for the Warriors, each contributing 25 points in the win.
"This is something special," Stephen Curry said after the game. "This is a special group. From the start of the season this is what we envisioned. We're going to remember this for a long time."
Cleveland's James - in his homecoming season after a successful spell at Miami Heat - once again led the way for the injury-hit Cavaliers, scoring a game-high 32 points. It wasn't enough for victory though as Cleveland's title drought continued - no team from the city has won a title at the top level of US professional sports since the Cleveland Browns NFL team in 1964.
With the win, Golden State became the first NBA team to win a title with a squad lacking any previous finals experience since the Chicago Bulls managed the feat back in 1991.
