Sebastian Vettel came closer to wrapping up a second straight Formula One world title after a decisive victory at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Red Bull driver dominated on the floodlit track, his victory moving him within one point of becoming the youngest two-time title holder. McLaren's Jenson Button held off his title dreams with a late charge, finishing 1.7 seconds behind Vettel.
"The car was fantastic all the way through. When we could push we could pull away easily," Vettel told reporters after the race.
He added that he felt he was capable of clinching the world title again, but that he didn't want to press his luck.
"Obviously with the races that we've had so far, it should not be a big problem," he said. "Statistically the chances are on our side. But generally in sports there have been a lot of stories written, and this one also has to wait to be closed first."
Singapore was Vettel's ninth win of the season, with a time of 1 hour and 59.06 minutes on the 5.07-kilometer track. He leads Button by 124 points in the drivers' standing.
Vettel's Australian teammate Mark Webber took third place at Sunday's race, followed by Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.
