US President Barack Obama has appointed special diplomatic envoys to two of the world's most troubled regions. Ex-UN ambassador Richard Holbrooke will devote his energies to Afghanistan and Pakistan, which Obama has made a foreign policy priority. And former senator George Mitchell becomes envoy to the Middle East.The two are senior Democratic politicians and veterans of former President Bill Clinton's administration. They will work alongside Obama's secretary of state, Hilary Clinton.
