TT Charlemagne prize: Community of Sant Egidio provides support for the elderly in Germany

The Community of Sant Egidio is known above all for it's peace efforts, it's charity work with AIDS sufferers and the homeless, and for its spiritual support for convicts on death row. It has more than fifty thousand members and is active in more than seventy countries around the world. In the early 90s, it made international headlines by helping to negotiate a peace deal in the civil war in Mozambique. Here in Germany, one of its main projects is providing support for the elderly.
