Travel 2021: The places our travel team will want to go
We miss traveling and long to revisit beloved and new places that have been on our wish list. Here is where we want go as soon as coronavirus restrictions allow us to.
Viva Mexico!
Which destination do I miss? There are so many right now! I would love to go back to Mexico, where I learned Spanish, made many friends and developed my passion for Latin America. The photo is from 2011 and shows me in a 10-years-younger version at the Arco of Cabo San Lucas, on the southern tip of California. (Lukas)
Going on a safari in Africa
In 2020 I wanted to fly to Tanzania with friends. Of course, that didn't work out, but I'll definitely make up for it! Safari tours are a very expensive, but I think, definitely worth it. Watching elephants, wildebeest, and zebras, sampling the country's cuisine and admiring Mount Kilimanjaro. (Elisabeth)
A quiet Mediterranean beach
When travel is possible again, I want to go to the seaside! Somewhere warm and pleasant to swim, probably the Mediterranean: Spain, France, Italy, or Greece (picture). After long months of social distancing, it will be a while before I’ll want to be somewhere crowded like a city. So, my holiday plans will involve the sea, mountains, and great open spaces. (Susan)
Schachen, Bavaria
My first tour to the King's House on Schachen left a lasting impression. First I rode my mountain bike to the Wettersteinalm mountain pasture and then hiked over the Schachentor to the house that King Ludwig II had built for himself in the Bavarian Alps at a height of 1,870 meters (6,135 ft) to celebrate his birthday in seclusion. When summer comes, I want to go up there again. (Andreas)
South Tyrol, Italy
To wake up in Vöran, in our beloved farm at 1,200 meters above sea level. It's located on the sunny side of the Adige Valley looking at the majestic peaks of the South Tyrolean mountains. Hiking from the front door, always with the Alpine panorama in view and enjoying the sunsets in the evening, that's what my husband and I dreamed of last year - and hope it will finally happen in 2021. (Anne)
Bali once more please!
Strolling along green rice fields, enjoying pink sunsets by the sea, relaxing during a yoga class - my Bali trip was unforgettable. The island is the Hindu center of Indonesia. This is evident not least in the many temples. At every corner it smells of incense sticks. Culinary Bali was also a paradise for me as a vegan. I want to go back! (Nicole)
A cycle tour along the River Elbe
No long-distance trip but a bike tour nearby is my next travel wish: Along the Elbe river from Wittenberge to Lauenburg, through the Wendland region and on the other side of the former border river between East and West Germany through the Elbe Valley meadows. It's supposed to happen at Easter, but whether that remains a pipe dream or becomes a dream trip is still written in the stars. (Christian)
A road trip through Portugal
I would like to explore Portugal by car: I'd start in the northern city of Porto (pictured) with a stroll through the enchanting old town and enjoy a Porto Tonic at the harbor. Then down the coast to the south with stops at the most beautiful surfing spots. After a few days of swimming on the south coast, I'd head back through the interior, stopping in quaint villages and at wineries. (Christina)
Normandy, France
Last year I completed a French course. As a reward, I was supposed to go on a two-week summer vacation to Normandy to put my freshly acquired knowledge to use. In short: combine the practical with pleasure and enjoyment. But instead of walks on the pebble beach of Dieppe, I had to hang out on my couch at home. But postponed is not canceled! (Winni)
