The Russian President calls for social renewal and economic moderization

In his annual state of the nation address at the Kremlin, President Dmitry Medvedev has outlined a vision of Russia as one of the world's leading economies and a mature democracy. Public expectations of his address were high after Medvedev published a blueprint in September, saying Russia had to tackle its "ineffective economy, semi-Soviet social structure and weak democracy".
