As diplomatic efforts are being stepped up to find a solution to the crisis in Georgia, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has now announced that she will travel to the region next week. She is also due to hold talks on Friday with Russian Presdient Dmitri Medveydev in the black sea resort of Sochi. Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Georgia's conflict regions remains critical. Food and water supplies are dwindling, buildings are in ruin and many residents have been left homeless.
