The German government has published a draft questionnaire to be put to people seeking German citizenship. The document has drawn criticism from the opposition, unions and groups representing ethnic and religious minorities. The questionnaire is designed to test applicants' knowledge of German history, politics and culture. But critics say it simply raises the bar for people from ethnic minorities who want an equal role in German society. They also object to the government refusal to allow them to permanently hold dual nationality.
