The BOBs: Online voting for sixth annual blog competition
March 12, 2010Deutsche Welle will present the 187 finalists for this year’s international weblog awards – The BOBs – on Monday, March 15. Users from around the world submitted more than more than 8,300 nominations over the last few months for awards in 11 languages and six categories. A renowned, international jury chose finalists in 11 languages and will be selecting their winners in April. Users have until April 14 to cast their vote online for their favorite and thereby select the people’s choice awards.
New to The BOBs this year is a special award for blogs dealing with climate change. Other categories include the Best Weblog, Best Videoblog, Best Podcast, Reporters Without Borders Award and the Blogwurst Award. In addition, for the first time, there will be awards for the best blog and podcast in Bengali. The other languages included are Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, German, Indonesian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
With The BOBs, Deutsche Welle fosters freedom of the speech and freedom of opinion worldwide. The prize also highlights the many facets of the global blogosphere and creates an international dialogue with and for this form of communication on the Internet.
The BOBs jury will meet on April 13 and 14 in Berlin during the re:publica Internet conference to decide the winners. Deutsche Welle will announce these winners at an open event in the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin on the evening of April 15.
The awards will be handed out at a separate event during the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum in June 2010 in Bonn. This year’s Global Media Forum will focus on Climate Change and the Media.
