Tens of thousands of Thai citizens took to the streets of Thailand to pay their last respects to the deceased king. Many mourners dressed in black and held aloft portraits of the king.

Mourners travel from across Thailand
Woraporn Jukkhom said she travelled 600 kilometers from the Lampang province to Bangkok attend the procession. "I just had to be here," she told the DPA news agency. "This is our last chance to say goodbye."
Mourning period
The official mourning period will last for one year. Meanwhile, authorities have asked residents of Bangkok's notorious night life scene to calm things down for a month.
A daily presence in the life of Thais
Bhumibol was ever-present in the lives of Thailand's citizens. His portrait hangs in every restaurant, office and house. Each morning and evening, loudspeakers play the national anthem, for which people are expected to stop.
