Hundreds of young people have clashed with police in Athens during a May Day rally against government austerity plans. Greece is on the brink of insolvency, with the International Monetary Fund saying it could take the country a full decade to recover. The cutbacks in public spending have been demanded by the IMF and the EU as a condition of a rescue package worth up to 120 billion euros.
