Bare Sightings

No one is sure how the picturesque Alpine canton of Appenzell-Innerrhoden became ground zero for nudist hiking enthusiasts. But suddenly, there they were, letting it all hang out.
Most of the naked offenders, according to the Swiss daily Tages-Anzeiger, are German nudists not content to spend the summer months lounging on towels on the Baltic Sea.
The Swiss regional government decided to fight back by slapping a fine of 200 Swiss francs ($170 or 133 euros) on anyone caught tromping through the countryside au natural.
The Tages-Anzeiger reports that the Swiss have been scandalized by a recent wave of naked hikers. Nude hiking enthusiasts couldn't have picked a worse part of Switzerland to try and push decency standards. The traditionally-minded canton, Swizerland's smallest by population, only gave women the right to vote in 1990.
