Suicide attack in Cameroon
July 26, 2015At least 10 people died after a female suicide bomber blew herself up in Cameroon's northern town Moaroua, a local military commander said. Over 60 people were injured and the death toll was expected to rise.
"We are still counting the dead and wounded," governor of the region Midjiyawa Bakari told the Associated Press.
The attacker struck at a bar in the Pont Vert neighborhood, frequented by locals in the area on Saturday at 7:50 local time (1850 UTC).
No organization claimed responsibility for the attack, but Boko Haram was believed to be behind recent strikes in the area.
On Wednesday, twin suicide attacks in a Maroua marketplace killed at least 20 people. One of the bombers was a nine-year-old girl disguised as a beggar, officials said.
The Nigeria-based terror group, which has pledged allegiance to the "Islamic State" has recently stepped up attacks in neighboring Cameroon because of the country's mission to support Nigeria in its war against terror.
Cameroon, Chad and Niger's troops have got together with the Nigerian army to rid the region of the jihadists, who have seized parts of Nigeria's northeast.
