Sri Lanka's army says the civil war is over and Tamil Tiger leader - Prabhakaran is dead

Sri Lanka's government says the 25-year civil war against the Tamil Tiger rebels is over.. and the last militants have been defeated. This comes after reports that rebel's leader and his son were killed in a major operation on Monday. In a ceremony broadcast on state television, the military reported that it had fulfilled its mission of crushing rebel efforts to carve out a separate state for the Tamils. Sri Lankan troops say they have cleared the last pocket of guerilla resistance in the north, putting the island nation entirely under government control.
