South Korea has gone ahead with live-fire exercises on Yonpyong island in the Yellow Sea - despite threats of retaliation from the North. On Sunday the UN Security Council held an emergency session on the escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula - but failed to agree on how to defuse the crisis. After a similar drill last month, four South Koreans, including two civilians were killed when the North bombarded Yonpyong Island with artillery.
