An Egyptian court has sentenced 14 Islamist militants to death for attacks on the army in the Sinai Peninsula last year. The verdicts show Cairo's determination to deal with militant activity in the vast desert area. It's been gripped by turmoil since Hosni Mubarak was toppled from power more than a year ago. Bedouins who live in the barren lands of North Sinai on the border with Israel feel pushed aside in the constant hostility. Extremism there is growing.
