German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel opened the UN Biodiversity Conference with a warning that the current alarming rate of extinction will continue as long as destroying nature is more profitable than protecting it. And he called for greater fairness in sharing the benefits of the developing world's resources, saying industrialized countries and their corporations often use them without authorization or compensation.
