Serbia has been under enormous pressure to find and arrest both Radovan Karadzic and his former military commander Radko Mladic. The European Union has defined full cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia as a pre-condition for Serbia's possible accession to the EU. The tribunal has been trying for years to bring to justice the perpetrators of war crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia, starting with former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, who died in detention in March of 2006. +++syn+++
