Sam Smith releases new James Bond title song
September 25, 2015As soon as "Writing's on the Wall" was released on Friday (25.09.2015), the James Bond International Fan Club immediately hailed it as a classic 007 song - though other fans weren't as enthusiastic.
Grammy award winner Sam Smith was the first British male solo singer to sing a 007 theme since Tom Jones sang "Thunderball" in 1965.
In July, singer Ellie Goulding posted a photo on Instagram of her leaving the famous Abbey Road Studios in London. Her comment: "It's a wrap." The enigmatic post has sparked a frenzy of speculation: Could she have recorded the new theme song to the upcoming James Bond film, "Spectre"?
The rumor proved untrue, however. At the beginning of September, it was revealed that UK superstar Sam Smith had penned the hotly awaited title: "Writing's on the Wall."
"Spectre" features Daniel Craig as super spy 007 and will hit cinemas around the world on November 6.

The original theme from the first 007 film, "Dr. No" (1962), was performed by John Barry & Orchestra and contained no lyrics. Since then, however, superstars ranging from Madonna to Adele have written and performed the numbers - which have become international hits independent of the films.
