Israeli soldier stabbed
November 10, 2014The soldier, reported to be in his early 20s, received critical injuries in the attack on Monday, which Israeli police say appeared to be politically motivated.
The alleged assailant was captured immediately after the stabbing, and came from the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, according to police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
"He is presently under interrogation," Rosenfeld said.
The Tel Aviv attack follows several violent incidents between Israelis and Palestinians over recent days, including the fatal shooting by Israeli police of a young Israeli Arab man on Saturday. The youth's death sparked stone-throwing protests in several Arab towns.
Five days ago, a Palestinian rammed his car into pedestrians in central Jerusalem, killing two Israelis. The driver was shot dead by police.
Tensions have been high due to a conflict over access to a Jerusalem holy site, which is sacred to both Jews and Muslims.
It comes only months after last summer's 50-days of fighting in the Gaza Strip, in which thousands of people, the vast majority Palestinians, were killed.
