Our Bundesliga tips for Matchday Three
Germany's top flight is starting up again after a break for internationals, and it's time to get predicting. DW reporter Andreas Sten-Ziemons has picked this weekend's likely winners and losers. What do you think?
Will Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen?
It seems like ages ago that we last saw Bundesliga action, but it's only been two weeks. For the first match of the restart, league-leaders Bayer Leverkusen will be taking on Werder Bremen. Leverkusen have scored a lot of goals so far this season, but is conceding some too. We reckon against Werder Bremen their attack will be too strong. Our tip: 3-2 to Leverkusen.
Goals in Hoffenheim?
Hoffenheim has started well this season and will take this confidence into their game against Wolfsburg. The 2009 champions have, in comparison, started the season slowly. We expect a busy game with lots of chances. Our tip: 2-all draw.
Which new team has the edge?
In the west of Germany, Paderborn will host Cologne in a battle between second and fourth. We think Cologne will win it, in a close match. Our tip: 2-1 win to Cologne.
How fresh are they?
Hertha Berlin will have a number of national team players returning from around the world. Their opponents Mainz don't have the same problems though. We reckon they'll have a result that is fair but not too satisfying for either team. Our tip: 1-all draw.
Can Dortmund fill the gaps?
Marco Reus is injured, and so is Ciro Immobile and Mats Hummels. But BVB, thanks to their huge squad, doesn't have to worry too much about their injured stars, especially not against SC Freiburg. The team from the southwest will fight hard, but surely lose. DW's tip: 3-0 to Dortmund.
Who will win the battle of southern Germany?
Time for an upset! We think Stuttgart will surprise the struggling Bavarians, who are still trying to find their rhythm after the short summer break. Pep Guardiola will barely be able to control himself on the sideline during the game. Our tip: 1-nil win to Stuttgart.
The Foals or the Royal Blues?
After two dull draws in the first two games for Borussia Mönchengladbach, things are looking up for the Foals. They are moving better and the counter-attacks are starting to gel. Gladbach will beat Schalke for their first win of the season, it will be the 26th time they have beaten the Royal Blues at home. Our tip: 2-1.
Will Augsburg turn it around?
What is wrong with Augsburg? Last season things went so well for them. So far though, the team doesn't seem to have coped with the loss of some good players in the summer break. Against Frankfurt, things won't work out, again, we suspect. Our tip: 2-nil win to Frankfurt.
Hannover too strong for HSV?
Oh Hamburg, that hurts! Despite going on a spending spree at the end of the summer break, buying Lewis Holtby and Julian Green, they still won't win this one. Hannover will get rid of Hamburg this time round, and their coach too, perhaps? Our tip: 2-0 to Hannover.
Not a great haul
Last Bundesliga round DW sports reporter Stefan Nestler managed to get us just two points in DW's Bundesliga prediction game. That means that we are now on 12 points and sitting in 198th position. If you also want to get involved, head here: http://kickoff.dw.de/betting.xhtml
