Our Bundesliga tips for Matchday Four
The Champions League action is over for the moment, as is the Europa League: it's time to get back to the Bundesliga. Ahead of the fourth matchday of the season, our DW reporter Thomas Klein has predicted the results.
Friday night football
Freiburg will host Hertha Berlin in the first game of this weekend and we think the team from the capital will have the edge. Especially because their new signing John Heitinga will finally sort out Hertha's defense. After nine goals conceded in the first three rounds, Hertha should be able to keep a clean sheet against Freiburg and Julian Schieber will score the goals. Our tip: 2-0 to Hertha.
Paderborn to continue undefeated
Paderborn coach Andre Breitenreiter calls his own team "extreme underdogs" but we think they'll keep their form this weekend. Against Hannover, Paderborn will only let in one goal but Elias Kachunga will score just before full time to get the draw. Specific enough for you? Our tip: 1-1.
Debacle in Hamburg
Despite the presence of their new coach Joe Zinnbauer, Hamburg still won't be able to turn it around. Zinnbauer will be able to get some more lift out of his team, but Bayern's attacking unit - including Thomas Müller and co. - will still demolish Hamburg and storm to the top of the Bundesliga table. Our tip: 5-0 win to Bayern.
Augsburg back on track
No wins, no losses: so far, Werder Bremen have been clocking up draw after draw. Against Augsburg though, it'll be a different story. We reckon Augsburg will show a bit of the form they managed last season and striker Sascha Mölders will be back on song again. Our tip: 2-1 to Augsburg.
Are Schalke back?
After the top performance in the Champions League against Chelsea, the Royal Blues will likely put on a good show against Eintracht Frankfurt as well. Despite their major injury worries, Schalke will win in the league for the first time and coach Jens Keller will be out of hot water (for now at least.). DW's tip: 3-1 to Schalke.
Time to smile, at last
In their fourth game of the season, Stuttgart and their coach Armin Veh will finally have cause to celebrate. Despite a strong showing from their opponents Hoffenheim, Stuttgart should have just enough firepower to win this game and finally move out of the relegation zone. Our tip: 1-0 to Stuttgart.
Will Dortmund do it again?
Mainz have been waiting for four years for a win against Borussia Dortmund and things aren't about to change any time soon. The hosts will start strong but, in the end, Champions League regulars Dortmund will just be too good. Our tip: 2-0 to BVB.
Goal fest in Wolfsburg?
These days, whenever Bayer Leverkusen are playing there are almost always plenty of goals. So, after their poor showing against Monaco in their midweek Champions League match, they'll be keen to get on the scoreboard again. But Wolfsburg's counter-attacking style will also bring rewards. Our tip: 5-4 win to Leverkusen, in an entertaining encounter.
Derby time in Cologne
Finally a Rhine derby in the Bundesliga: Cologne vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach. The fans should have a good game here, as Cologne will want to put on a good showing and the guests from Gladbach should be up to the task. Despite a taxing Thursday night game in the Europa League, we reckon the Foals will go out winners. Our tip: 2-1 to Gladbach.
