NATO backs US plans for a change of strategy in Afghanistan

NATO defence ministers meeting in Brussels have agreed to back a US plan to shake up the military command in Afghanistan. 56,000 U.S. soldiers and 33,000 troops from other NATO countries will soon come under the command of Lieutenant General Stanley McChrystal. A former commander of US special forces in Iraq, McChrystal says the war against the Taliban still had a long way to go. +++SYN+++
