Media reports in Germany suggest the government is considering a big reduction in the size of the military as part of a drive to cut public spending. It's also thinking about ending compulsory military service in what could be the biggest shake-up of the Bundeswehr in years. The proposals come as ministers look at ways of cutting spending by 10 Bbillion euros a year to reduce the budget deficit.
