Media Harbor, Düsseldorf

Elisabeth Yorck von Wartenburg/atSeptember 19, 2016

No visitor to the Media Harbor in Düsseldorf can fail to see the three buildings designed by star US architect Frank Gehry. Nothing is symmetric here - they are twisted, lopsided and crooked.

Once derided for looking like an aluminum "office can", Frank Gehry's Rheinhafen Centre of Arts and the Media has since become a prominent landmark in Düsseldorf. Its three buildings were built at the end of the 1990s and now house office space for agencies, consultants and fashion designers. The two buildings on either side - one made from white plaster, the other from brick - are reflected in the facade of the middle building, made from stainless steel. Thus, despite their differences the three are intricately linked.
