Player of the Week
December 14, 2015Whichever way you look at this season, Javier Hernandez has been a magnificent signing for Bayer Leverkusen. Scoring seven of the club's last 10 goals, the little Mexican has been in startling form and continues to prove his doubters wrong from his previous clubs. With 15 goals in 12 games, Hernandez is easily Leverkusen's most important player at the moment.
The help of Stefan Kiessling, who scored the other two goals, was certainly fruitful. While Chicharito looked for the scraps, the effort and power of Kiessling allowed the former Man United and Real Madrid player to hover in-and-around the box where he does his best work. The future for Kiessling looks uncertain, but perhaps the pair can strike up a great partnership before too long.
A special mention goes to Borussia Dortmund skipper Mats Hummels who turned in an excellent performance in the 4-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. He defended well, scored one and set up the first of the afternoon. He admitted post-game that his confidence took a hit last week, but this was Hummels at his best.
