The German government has decided to extend the lifespan of its nuclear power plants. After a marathon session late into the night, the cabinet agreed on a compromise - under which some its nuclear plants would be operational until the 2030s. In return, nuclear energy companies are being asked to pay billions of Euros in an additional levy and contribute towards the development of renewable energy. A previous government had legislated ALL nuclear plants would be phased out by 2022.
