Jürgen Klopp pens a new six-year deal with Liverpool
July 8, 2016Liverpool announced on Friday that Klopp signed the contract extension with the club despite only taking charge of the Reds last October. The Merseyside club's American owners have now tied down one of football's most popular coaches until 2022.
Klopp told Liverpool's official website that while he feels "honored" by the commitment shown to him, he's also aware of the responsibility that comes with it. "It is my job to ensure that every element of the LFC football environment reflects the best practices in the game," he said.
The club's principal owner John Henry and Liverpool's chairman Tom Werner have labelled Klopp as a "world-class managerial talent," and said that it would be "irresponsible" not to secure his services for the long term.
Liverpool finished in 8th in last season's Premier League under Klopp's leadership but managed to reach the Europa League final, where they lost to Spanish club Sevilla.
