We start in Iran.. where Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been sworn in for a second four-year term as president. He has vowed to resist "oppressive powers", saying his June election marked a major change in Iran. Several prominent moderate leaders did not attend the ceremony - and many western governments, including Germany and the US did not send their customary congratulations to him in view of the controversial election results. Opposition supporters protesting outside parliament were met by hundreds of riot police.
