In an address to Muslim leaders in Amman, Pope Benedict is calling for unity between Muslims and Christians

The Pope has spoken out against what he called the "ideological manipulation of religion", blaming it for causing "tensions, skisms and sometimes even violence". Benedict made the comments in an address to Muslim leaders in Jordan on day two of his Middle East tour. The speech was being closely watched for any reference to an address in 2006 that appeared to link Islam with violence. The pope says that speech was mis-interpreted, and today said misunderstandings between Muslims and Christians were a historical "burden".
