Visit Hamburg
March 23, 2010The Hamburg City Hall, completed in 1897, is one of the most impressive government buildings in all of Germany. More than 100,000 visitors tour the landmark every year.
Hamburg is best known, however, for its harbor and shipping industry. It is Germany's biggest port and the third largest in all of Europe.
Wealthy captains and traders proved to be avid art collectors, as you'll learn in Hamburg's Kunsthalle art museum. One of its highlights is the collection of 19th-century French paintings.
Hamburg is also a hotspot for music of all kinds. The Beatles once performed at the Reeperbahn, and today Hamburg stages more musicals than any other city in Germany. The city also boasts a thriving scene for contemporary rock and pop music - which visitors can experience at the annual Reeperbahn Festival in September.
