Grammy Awards 2022: The top nominees

He's the 2022 Grammy leader with 11 nominations. With his track "Freedom," album "We Are" and the soundtrack for Disney's jazz cartoon "Soul," Batiste collected nods for his work in various genres, from American roots to jazz to R&B. He even obtained a nomination for best contemporary classical composition, with "Movement 11."

The Canadian singer has demonstrated over the past few years that he's more than just a teen idol. With his latest album, "Justice," and its singles, Justin Bieber has picked up eight nominations for album, record and song of the year in the top categories, as well as nods in other pop and R&B categories.

Doja Cat is another nomination front runner. The "Kiss Me More" singer is up for eight Grammys, including record and song of the year, as well as different rap categories. A social media darling — especially on TikTok — the rapper is refreshingly honest about her struggles with the music industry, and has threatened to "quit" it all a few times in the past days on Twitter.

Tied with Justin Bieber and Doja Cat, singer-songwriter H.E.R. (Gabriella Wilson) was also nominated eight times, including in two top categories, album of the year and song of the year, along with different R&B categories. She also obtained a nod for best contemporary Christian music song.

Eilish is nominated for seven prizes, including album, song and record of the year. If she wins the latter — for her tune "Happier Than Ever" — she would make history by becoming the first woman to win the Grammy in the coveted category three times, joining Paul Simon, who is to date the only other artist to have achieved the feat.

Tied with Billie Eilish with five nods, the 19-year-old star is nominated in all of the so-called Big Four categories: record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist. Filipino American artists are in the Grammys' spotlight this year: Along with Olivia Rodrigo, nominees H.E.R, Bruno Mars and Saweetie are all acts with Philippine heritage.

Even though he's "only" earned three nods this year, that allowed Shawn Carter, aka Jay-Z, to officially become the artist with the most nominations in Grammy Awards history, with a total of 83. The 51-year-old rapper and billionaire has won 23 to date. Meanwhile, his wife Beyonce holds the record for female artist with the most Grammy wins, having picked up the golden statuette 28 times.
