Löw 'sticking by' Götze
February 19, 2017Löw said in an interview with German magazine Kicker that Götze remains in his plans despite his dry spell with Dortmund.
"He scores goals against top countries - Argentina, Brazil," Löw said. "He has the talent to score at the very top level. I am therefore sticking by him."
Götze, 24, returned to Dortmund last July after spending three seasons with Bayern Munich. But he has scored just two goals in 16 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions this season. He has yet to see the field in 2017 due to various injuries.
Forever a World Cup hero
Götze of course was the man who scored the winning goal for Germany in extra time of the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina. Löw also included Götze in Germany's squad for the European Championship in France last summer despite the forward seemingly falling out of favor with former Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola.
"Even when he is not in good form at the club level, I know how he can perform with us," Löw said. He also added that Götze "is very inquisitive and curious, sometimes maybe a little too much."
