European Union leaders appear close to reaching a deal to help Greece tackle its debt problems. It comes after German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy agreed on a set of proposals to support Athens. Berlin and Paris have been at odds over the question of whether and how to offer Greece a fiscal safety net. But the two leaders found concensus ahead of an EU summit in Brussels.
