German Hockey Players in Hot Water for Doping Test No-Show
July 30, 2008The players, who weren't named, twice failed to comply with doping test requirements set by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in Bonn.
"In five cases, we have started an official investigation and reported to NADA," said Germany's ice hockey federation President Uwe Harnos, as quoted by the magazine Eishockey News. "I assume that we can reach a decision this week."
As many as 12 players from the national team could be implicated, reported the magazine. Nine players from the United States' National Hockey League (NHL) are listed on the team's roster, but it is not known if any of them are involved.
The German national hockey team qualifies for most major competitions, placing fifth at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and 10th in the 2006 Games in Turin.
