The German government says it intends to compensate the families of Afghan civilians killed in an airstrike in September. The defence ministry says it is negotiating with the victims' lawyers. Up to 142 people were killed when a German commander called in an airstrike on two fuel trucks hijacked by the Taliban in the northern province of Kunduz.
