Celebrated German film composer Hans Zimmer received an Oscar nomination in the category of best original score for his work on the movie "Inception." It was the latest in a long series of accolades for the prodigious music writer.
The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Zimmer's name along with the other Oscar nominees on Tuesday. The sci-fi thriller "Inception" received eight total nominations, including in the best picture category. The winners will be revealed in a Hollywood ceremony on February 27.
Zimmer already has one Oscar to his name, for the hit score to the 1995 animated film "The Lion King."
Zimmer's work, which includes the scores to more than 100 movies, earned him a star on the illustrious Hollywood Walk of Fame in December.
Although "Inception" also garnered Zimmer a Golden Globe nomination, he lost the award at a ceremony earlier this month. He could still win a Grammy from the US music industry, which nominated Zimmer's scores to both "Inception" and "Sherlock Holmes."
The 53-year-old artist was born in Frankfurt and has lived in California since the late 1980s.
His other film scores include music for "The Da Vinci Code," "Gladiator" and "Thelma and Louise." That output has earned him recognition as one of the most successful film composers in the history of Hollywood.
