Germany's Merkel to visit Erdogan in Istanbul
January 17, 2020Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on January 24, the German government announced on Friday.
Merkel will travel to Turkey's largest city to discuss a wide range of topics that are sure to include the conflicts in Libya and across the Middle East, particularly as their meeting will take place just a few days after Sunday's Libya peace talks in Berlin.
Turkish schools hope
Migration issues may well feature prominently on the agenda, in addition to the German government's efforts to work out a possible framework for hosting three Turkish schools in Germany.

As part of her trip, Merkel plans to inaugurate the new campus of the Turkish-German University in Istanbul alongside Erdogan.
The chancellor will also meet industry representatives at the invitation of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce.
