Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olment has dismissed a UN resolution demanding a ceasefire as "unworkable", and says the armed forces will continue their offensive in the Gaza Strip. Hamas has also rejected the resolution, which was voted in by 14 of the 15 Security Council members. The US abstained. Meanwhile on the ground in Gaza, UN officials say nearly 800 Palestinians have been killed since the fighting began almost two weeks ago.
