Borussia Dortmund swept past third division Magdeburg to sail into the third round of the German Cup and blow away concerns about a dip in form. Alexander Isak grabbed the headlines on his first start in German football, setting up the opener and scoring the second in a 5-0 victory. Mainz needed extra-time to see off the challenge of second division high-flyers Kiel. Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt disposed of fourth-tier Schweinfurt with ease and Ingolstadt came from behind to see off fellow Bundesliga 2 side Fürth.
There were also no real surprises in the early games as all the Bundesliga sides progressed. Borussia Mönchengladbach were made to work hard for their victory by a single goal in Düsseldorf. Schalke were cruising but had to withstand a late Wiesbaden rally while Leverkusen were pegged back in the sceond half by Union Berlin before running out comforatble winners in the end. Third division leaders Paderborn put in an impressive shift to beat Bochum of the second tier.

FULL TIME Mainz gather their last reserves of energy to crawl over the line against Kiel, who had their chances but just not enough in the end.

82'-- GOAL! Ingolstadt have nicked it! Stefan Lex squeezes the ball home from a tight angle. Keeper Marius Funk will not be happy with his attempt to save that.
80'-- Marvin Matip, Inglostadt's captain and wearing a mask tonight, tries in vain to get on the end of a cross to make a breakthrough. Still deadlock in Fürth.
79'-- GOAL! Marc Bartra plants a thunderous header home from Kagawa's cross. Dortmund 4-0 up and in the next round.

77'-- Kiel almost take the lead. Aaron Seidel, on loan from Mainz gets a foot on a cross and nearly turns it home, but Zentner dives well to save. The keeper claims the corner and we are heading for extra time.

58-- GOAL! Sebastian Haller robs the Schweinfurt defender of the ball about 30 yards out, staggers on towards goal after brushing off the next defender and sidefooting home.
57'-- Just minutes before that goal, Maxim had a shot cleared off the line, which would have put Mainz 2-0 up. As it is, they are pegged back and on the ropes. The troubled start to Sandro Schwarz' reign looks set to get worse.
55'-- GOAL! Kiel are level! Schindler from the spot after Gbamin had brought him down on the edge of the area.
52'-- Huge chance for Frankfurt. Marco Russ rises high from a corner but his header is saved on the line, as is the rebound that he managhed to get in.
51'-- The Magdeburg pitch is barely visible after fans let off a series of flares. The home side try and slip behind the Dortmund defense unseen, but can't make the most of a rare counter.

HALF TIME And all the Bundesliga sides are doing what they were supposed to and lead against lower-league opposition.
41'-- GOAL Castro opens the scoring for Dortmund with his first touch after coming on for Dahoud. Half-volley from close range following a knock-down from Isak.
40'-- There's a break in play in Magdeburg as Dahoud receives treatment. Over in Mainz, Kiel are now creating some real chances. Adler had to be at his best to keep out Duksch and Schindler has gone close too.
35'-- Dortmund are being given no time to settle, no time to put their foot on the ball in the middle of the park. Possession is around 70 percent, but they are not able to find any space in useful areas.

16'-- The all-Bavarian, all-Bundesliga 2 clash between Fürth and Ingolstadt is only slowly getting underway. Very much cat-and-mouse at the moment. Inglostadt have two corners in quick succession that don't even threaten to threaten.

3'-- HOW DID DORTMUND NOT SCORE??? Maximillian Philipp hit the post with the keeper nowhere, but then the Magdeburg stopper appeared out of thin air to pull of an incredible reaction save to stop Isak following up!

59-- GOAL! Leverkusen are back in front. Lucas Alario scuffs a shot on the turn against the defender but reacts quickest to the rebound to loop a header over the stranded keeper.
59-- Bochum have come up against a brick wall in Paderborn so far. Any tentative attacks are snuffed out quickly or just way too wayward.
53'-- GOAL! Schalke are three up, but it should never have stood. Burgstaller took aim, missed the ball completey, took an air-shot and whenn the ball bounced back up, he shoved the defender in the back and seemed to punch home. But it stood. And it is game over here.
51-- GOAL! Gladbach are in font. Torgan Hazard has put the visitors ahead. Hazard waltzed through on the left, cut inside and fired home. The keeper could have done better, if we're honest.
48-- GOAL! Those traveling fans are making a racket...Union have equalized. Out of nowhere. Leverkusen should be three up, Dennis Daube found a gap through a forest of legs and Berlin are level
48-- And the signs are promising. Tony Jantshke huffed and puffed his way down the right hand side but the cross wasn't accurate enough. To be fair, he probably ran out of steam.

40-- Gladbach are having great difficulty finding a way through Düsseldorf's defense. They are going to have to come up with something.
35-- GOAL! Julian Brandt finally gives Leverkusen the lead. No more than tehy deserve. And once again, Brandt shows his class. Dances past three defenders and then lifts it over the keeper with the outside of his boot while falling. What a player he is.
34-- Second division Düsseldorf have had the better chances against Gladbach so far. The home fans are ramping up the atmosphere
29-- GOAL! Schalke are 2-0 up. Guido Burgstaller doubles the favorites' lead. The Austrian went inside his man and chipped it over the onrushing keeper.
25-- GOAL! Schalke are in front at Wiesbaden. Franco di Santo gets a rare goal and looks very grateful, sinking to his nees and clasping his hands around his face!
20-- Leverkusen are slowly finding their feet. Mehmedi nearly put them ahead with a half-volley from a long through ball.
20-- Having said that....Gräfe gets into a debate with Düsseldorf coach Funkel about a foul by Traore that wasn't punished. In the meantime, Gladbach have had their first chance through Stindl.
15-- Raman sees yellow for Düsseldorf for an over-exuberant challenge on Matthias Ginter. Referee Manuel Gräfe let play on for about five minutes before producing the card. Nothing escapes his beady eye...
11-- A feisty start in Düsseldorf with Gladbach enjoying the lion's share of possession. The home side are happy to let them play in non-threatening areas whilst looking to hit the Bundesliga team on the break.
7-- Kick-off in the game between Leverkusen and Union Berlin was delayed for a while as to allow the masses of visiting fans into the stadium. Berlin to Leverkuen on a wet Tuesday eveing is a fair old trek. Union must sense an upset in the air!

5-- First chance for second division Bochum in their match at Paderborn, who lead the league below. Hemmerich cut insidde from the left but only sent a daiy-cutter towards Paderborn keeper Ratajczak.
3'-- It's a rare old atmosphere at the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf for a derby that hasn't been played out too much in the league in recent years.
