At least 57 people, including journalists, were killed in that incident. At the same time the German Journalists' Union has written a letter to the Philippine ambassador, urging her to press her government to bring the perpetrators of the massacre to justice.

So far nearly 60 people have been charged by the authorities in connection with the massacre. Five of them are from a powerful Ampatuan family who have been charged with rebellion.
