It may have been panned by the New York Times as "Bronte devoid of talent," but E. L. James' blockbuster trilogy "Fifty Shades of Grey" is about to get the Hollywood treatment.

US actress Dakota Johnson will play Anastasia Steele, the literature student lured into an erotic narrative by the young and wealthy businessman, Christian Grey - to be played by Irish actor Jamie Dornan. Britain's Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the work. The film will debut at the "Berlinale" in the German capital in February, before going into global release in time for Valentine's Day.

The novel was originally self-published as fan-fiction inspired by the "Twilight" series, but was later picked up by Vintage Books and published globally in 2012. The trilogy has since been translated into 51 languages and is one of the fastest selling books of all time.
