European politicians welcome Greece's plan to trim its budget deficit

Greece's biggest public sector union has vowed to resist the new measures and is calling for a 24-hour strike on March 16 to protest . Nonetheless polls indicate relatively broad public backing for the government's efforts. And the government itself says now it's time for the EU to show a little solidarity.
