It was exactly 20 years ago here in Germany, shortly after the fall of the Berlin wall, that the people of the East German state took action against the Stasi, the state security service of the communist regime. The Stasi was widely regarded as one of the most effective and repressive intelligence agencies in the world. When demonstrators stormed its headquarters, they saved numerous documents from destruction.
